if you run more than one of those programs at a time you should probably have more ram. i've seen applications be much more happy with more memory allocated, which of course requires more ram. also having enough ram to turn off virtual memory helps, many programs seem to have difficulty with vm etc. i'd also check my extensions for junk, and delete the finder prefs as it cures many problems.
