This does not solve the problem of recieving emails with attachements from outlook. I have made the modification you mentioned below, but my wife sent me another email with an attachment and I was still unable to open it. The steps you mention below are for composing emails, not receiving emails with attachments.

Go into your preferences for Entourage and select Mail Preferences. Under compose you will find a heading for attachments.
