Any experiences with these? >> The Pentium 166 version of this product is exceptionally stable. However, there are three versions of the card: 1) early version with half-populated VRAM (two VRAM chips, two VRAM sockets for possible expansion); also half RAM (four DRAM chips); also "Sound Out" only, 2) later version with fully populated VRAM (four VRAM chips); also full RAM (eight DRAM chips); also "SND Out" and "Rev SND Out", also a rework kludge on the back of the board to correct some video problems, and 3) the final version; as in (2), but with no rework kludge on the back of the board. PC Setup 1.6.4, available from Apple's FTP site, works up to 8.1, but there is a fix to extend this to 8.5.1. This fix patches PC Network Extension from the official 1.6.4 release to the unofficial 1.6.5 release (under Extensions Manager this will show up as 1.6.4 for OT2 instead of as 1.6.4). This fix works fine for me on 8.6. Support for all MacOS versions through 9.2 is available (now free) from: http://www.pcsetup2x.com/ If you manage to get your hands on one of these boards, be sure to get the two sound cables if you want to use the onboard SoundBlaster card, and ... most important ... the required video "dongle" cable. The board is pretty much useless without the dongle. The original DOS Compatibility Card came with both DOS 6.2.2 *and* Windows 3.1.1. The PC Compatibility Card came with DOS 6.2.2, but *not* with Windows. You will have to find a full version of Windows 3.1.1 and then upgrade to Windows 95. I have not had good results trying to install the full version of Windows 95. If you have a multiscan monitor, the resolution switching between MacOS and Windows 95 is completely seamless, and you can choose whatever resolution and bit depth you wish, independently for both OSes. I have used these cards in Beige G3 MTs (extra cooling is advised) and in 7200s and 7500/7600s. Peter. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
