Greetings Everyone: I've got a problem with I.E. 5.1 that just developed. Some background: I downloaded a demo called "Speed Download", used it for 6 days, didn't like it, and removed it via secure delete by Stuffit Deluxe. I removed it because I was having problems trying to download anything from Apple or VersionTracker specifically the iTunes 2.0.4 update, which wouldn't download. I posted here and those who responded advised they had no problems. So, I removed Speed Download, and iTunes update downloaded without any problems. Since removing Speed Download, whenever I attempt to download a file, I receive the message: "Internet Explorer doesn't know how to handle the type of file you've selected. You can choose to save file to your disk or you can configure a Helper App. for this file. MIME Type Application/X-macbinary Then there are 4 buttons labeled "Cancel" "Save to File" "Plug-in" or "Application". It appears that when I deleted Speed Download, somehow,"File Helper" in I.E. Preferences got corrupted. When I open it, there are a number of "file helper apps" still showing "Speed Download" as the helper to be used. I don't know which app should be entered to replace Speed Download. I thought when you removed the program, it would automatically revert back to the original helper app, I found out it doesn't.
Does anyone have an idea as to what files I should mark as the appropriate helper apps for downloading and opening files? I tried marking "Stuffit Expander" and "Stuffit Deluxe" but the warning message didn't quit. I also tried marking I.E. and that didn't help either. That warning screen is so annoying and I don't know which app should be used to help download or to run the new program being loaded. Will I have to remove I.E. and reload it in order to get the correct helper apps back? Mahalo for any help or suggestions anyone might have.
