The subject line sums it up pretty clearly. I think a more appropriate question is 'Just how much of Mac OS X itself will benefit from the Altivec instructions?' I want to know if the extra $50 (roughly) is really used that extensively in OS X, since the G4 is pretty much a G3 with Altivec instructions and a better FPU.
