Macs come with an OS installed on them when they're purchased from Apple.
(unlike PeeCees where you have to buy the Windowz software). So as far as
I'm concerned, Apple was already paid for an OS for this machine, and I paid
the reseller for the machine and expect it to have an OS on it. It's just my
bad luck that I wasn't able to get the actual disk. If I had received the
disk, would it be okay for me to use it? I haven't paid Apple for it
directly, but it was purchased from Apple at some point.

I agree about a licence for other software, and always erase everything when
I resell a machine. Except for the OS of course :) The machine would be
useless without it.

According to your statement below, this is incorrect. As I said previously,
I have an 8.6 disk for my BUSINESS computer, and this machine is at home.
You state that I should be able to copy or install it on however many
computers I have in my private residence, but the OS came from a machine at
work?

Wait a minute! Why is it okay to install an OS on 10 machines at home, but
not at work? What's the difference? Greed?

Please don't start spouting off about moral fibre, makes me need to use the
toilet. FYI, if you go to the Apple web site, you are able to download, for
FREE, the OS 9.1 updater, which only needs 8.6 to be installed on your
machine. You can also download the OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updaters. I know,
because I just downloaded the 9.1 component. So as far as I can tell, I'm in
the clear, both MORALLY and legally.
