It may sound weird, but on the beige models the hard drive and cd have to be
set to master to work properly. The OS X cd may not work otherwise, or may
boot but be unable to find a proper install volume. Also, it may not be able
to boot from a SCSI cd if you've installed one. The beige g3 will work, but
X is very picky about how it's set up.
