A few weeks ago I upgraded my system from OS 8.6 to OS 9.

When I purchased my B&W G3 350 my Macintosh provider also sold me an
uConnect USB to Parallel port adapter (extension required, uConnect
extension, first extension) This allowed me to print to the Hewlett
Packard Deskjet 870cxi by selecting the DJ 800 Icon in chooser then
clicking on the uConnect printer port icon. Worked as intended and
allowed me to switch between it and the LaserWriter as required. (The
printer was originally purchased for use with a performa)

On upgrading my OS, I reinstalled third party extensions etc.
1. Chooser wouldn't recognise the uConnect extension, it didn't appear
in the Printer port window after clicking on the DJ 800 icon.
2. Printer not found
In all applications page set up wouldn't open. An indication of a window
opening on screen would happen then flick back to what ever I was
working on before I decided to print.

Matters appeared to move in the right direction when I was sent a
uConnect v5 extension. Now on double clicking the DJ800 icon I can
select the uConnect Icon. I can set up page set up. Printing starts
then I receive a -37 error. the printer proceeds to print and stops.
when i eject the printed page it contains a line of mathematical symbols
and letters various languages e.g.: °?C5 * ±9, letters with accents,
superscript symbols I don't know how to repeat, (they don't appear in
keycaps)

The fellow who sent me the uConnect v5 didn't workout, i.e. doesn't work
there anymore and *they the retail outlet who sold me this mac
originally don't want, to have, to deal with old macs.

The Printer software and drivers are the most recent 9.4 and claim to be
compatible with OS 9.

The problem appears to be the extension

'In a nut shell' where can I get an older extension?
v3 or v4 that might be compatible with OS 9

One would have imagined that v5 would have been compatible with OS 9.
I'm aware that the HP desk jet 870cxi is not ideal for use with a
macintosh, ( particularly with QuarkXpress) it is not postscript but one
must work with that which is available at the time of purchase. It was
difficult to get epson ink cartridges down here.

*they have tried to sell me a printer switch, usb adapter type thing and
have suggested I lose at least two days while they look over my system
at considerable cost. Between the hopping and trotting a new printer
would be cheaper.

Until then. If I can locate an extension that works. well!

I have looked for relevant extensions on the net over the last few weeks
and last night through a search done via a site shareware.com found a
site called allUSB.com on which I discovered that the Momentum uConnect
adapter people are at www.momentumus.com, 'except' attempts to get there
result in 404 errors.

Does Momentum still exist?

Thank You
Deirdre
