Hi Gregory, I don't think you have to go to 9 to use a USB PCI crd, Apple's adapter card support (free download from Apple) should work with 8.6. If you have to go to 9, you need to install 9.0 first, then update it to 9.0.4. The 9.0.4 is just a free update, you need to get hold of 9 (eBay etc.).
