I believe it depends on your ATA card. My ACard ATA card indicates that it is bootable in either OS 9 or X and that's what I've been using in my B&W G3 so if your card does not indicate this then I guess it might not be possible to have it boot from a drive attached to it (though I could be wrong about this). I'm just thinking why did the manufacturer bother to print this fact on the package if it's assumed that drives attached to all ATA cards are bootable. What card are you using anyway?
