You mean: can you fix OS X by reinstalling OS X? Or, can you fix Classic by
re-installing OS 9? You can probably fix Classic by saving the Preferences
file and re-installing OS 9.

I doubt OS X would be that simple, you probably would have to go through the
whole installation process. But, it seems that in OS X 10.2 (Jaguar?) you
won't have quite the same hassles -- one of the "rumour" sites had a slew of
pictures of a beta and it seems there's a "re-install" option for OS X now
(along with "back-up" your previous install to a folder).
