I am in the process of wiping a B&W G3 clean and re-installing. I gave the operator an option of OS levels (not sure why now). they requested 9 over 8.6
In the process of trying to install the OS it wants a firmware update (haven't done many of these). followed directions to the "T" (restart, holding programmers button til I hear the tone, release). I don't see the progress bar the "read me" talks about.
