I've been using an iMic for months now to record tapes from a boombox
(connecting its headphone jack to the iMic) and records from a turntable
(connecting either the speaker port or the output-to-tape port to the iMic.
The headphone jack works here too, but when I use it I get a hum in the
recording. Output-to-tape port is best.)

Works like a charm and gives excellent recordings. And the iMic's cable is
long enough to let you bring it right around in front of the Mac.
