Hi,

I've just found out that there's no ADSL access at my new address (too far
from the relay to guarantee speed). I don't want to move to high-speed cable
because I've had my e-mail address for many, many years and don't want to
give it up (that and the only company offering it locally is evil). So I'm
forced to downgrade to my company's dial-up service.

So, in the interest of getting the most bang for my bucks, here are my
questions...

1. What product or products (modem, switch, whatever) should I get to
connect my G3 BW to my single phone line that will allow me to surf AND talk
at once? (I don't want to shell out an extra $20/month for a second line and
I only have the high-speed modem currently.)

2. What kind of configuration would I need to connect both my 7200 and my G3
to the phoneline (that would allow me to surf and talk)?

3a. If I keep my ADSL modem (Nortel 1 Mb), can I still connect to the ISP
(speed question notwithstanding)? If they have me as a dial-up client, will
I be able to connect using ADSL? (I'm with Bell Sympatico in Canada). Can
they detect that I'm not dialing in if I can indeed connect?

3b. Because Bell says they won't service my neighbourhood ONLY because they
can't guarantee speed, I surmise that I still can access the service with
the ADSL modem. Is that right?

Thanks in advance. Please reply off-list 'cos I'm on digest.

Cheers, Joanne
