I don't think Entourage is any faster. OS X seems to be slow rendering html. Hopefully that will be fixed in Jaguar. Meanwhile, you can delete faster if you don't have the preview pane open or if you first click on a text message and then cmd-click on the html one to delete both of them without rendering the html.
