Yes both are right, email is a text based medium, in order to 
transfer binary files (ie. Your Quicktime movies) they have to be 
encoded using a text based encoding system, such as Binhex or 
UUencode which convert the binary file into a text file. Both of 
these encoding systems add to the file size by anything up to around 
35%, hence your 2.5MB file becoming a 3.5MB file.
