Howdy,
   A pretty good description of these tension wires and trintron design can

  An excerpt at the top says:
"Your monitor likely uses a Sony Trinitron picture tube. Trinitron 1 tubes 
can be recognized because they are curved only in the horizontal plane, but 
are flat vertically. Typically, the number of lines seen depends on the 
monitor size:
< 17" 1 line
17-21" 2 lines
 > 21" 3 lines
"
