Hi Folks-
I replaced a dead 4 gig hard drive in my G3/233 DT, rev 2, 96 megs,
with a 6 gig Quantum Fireball pulled from a beige G3 tower(I was told). I did
not reformat or reinstall software. It boots and runs fine in 9.1.
However, when I ran the Norton Utilities system info utility the
video parameter came up as being equivalent to a PPC 6100. The other
parameters, disk, FPU etc. were consistent with a beige G3/233.
I then replaced the disk with one pulled from a 6300 (1.3 gig). I did
a low level format and installed 9.0. When I ran the benchmark on this disk,
the video performance was consistent with what a G3 should be, much higher
than with the 6 gig drive. The disk parameter was poor, as would be expected,
but all the others were good. I did everything that Norton's required for
accurate readings.
Any idea why the video performance would be so poor with a faster
drive? If I reformat the 6 gig drive and reinstall software, could I expect
the video performance to be better? Does the hard disk effect video
performance?
I'm puzzled. Any insights appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Ron
