Or are you using the original that came with the iMac? I've seen numerous problems with MacAlly keyboards causing "lockups". Of course, I've also seen a number of the original iMac keyboards cause the same problem. It's partly the USB ports on the iMac, partly the keyboards. Replacing it with an Apple or at least a non-MacAlly keyboard usually works.
