I also just upgraded <kinda> my B&W 400 rev2 OS 9.2.1 it came with a
dvd/stock cd-rom but NO video card. after a few weeks of research and
searching I came across an ATI RAGE/mpeg2 decoder combo < thats what came
stock with
the dvd B&W's....and as far as I know ONLY with the B&W's - needless to say
they're a little hard to locate>

after installing the card with the daughter decoder I still got the message
that no dvd hardware was present < same as before I put in the card > but
it did show up in the sys profiler. So back to researching.... I found
some info in a forum and here is what I did... < this part is fowarded from
another email I wrote off list, he has a beige G3 w/radeon 7000>

Im very new to the G3 platform so Im by no means a tech... more times than
not =) Im wrong, so I just learn as I go.

here's what you do..... assuming it is a fix for you.

first off Im not sure what is installed for the other dvd players you've
tried but it is probably best to delete it all off of your Hard Drive...
with the assumption you will no longer need any of it. < assuming you can
replace it just in case this isnt a fix >

next Ive sent you two files.... one a multi-media update for the G3 <I
think its mostly for the BW but may be same for all G3's> -it is from Apple

goto here and it will download for you.

http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Eng
lish-North_American/Macintosh/Display-Peripheral/Video/Multimedia_Update_1.0
.smi.bin

also go here to get a tome viewer < if you dont have one >

http://allmacintosh.xs4all.nl/files/tucows_tomeview.hqx

now what you do is open then tomeviewer then through it open the
tome in the Multimedia update folder. extract all the files using the
tomeviewer to your desktop. Now replace ALL the extentions and
programs<dvdplayer>on your hard drive with the ones from the tome
extraction...you want the new ones to replace the ones you are already
using. except maybe the sound extension < i kept my old/newer one> Im
running 9.2.1

restart the computer while crossing your fingers and see what happens.

it worked for me =) I have a different configuration card/os/comp. but it
may be universal since its made by apple.

any questions or uncertianties please ask
