I hope this is not too far off topic that I warrant a scolding, but the X
lists seem to be pretty snobby when I ask a question like this:
Background:
Beige G3, Rev. B 768 MB Ram, NewerTech G4/400, 3dFx Secondary Video, 3.2 GB
IDE, 17 GB External SCSI.
I have tried several ways to get this 10.1 CD to boot/install and am having
No luck.
First, inserted in CD, open the Welcome To OS X Install OS X: Splash opens,
says to click here to restart and install X. I do. It just sits there. In
the Active Program Icon (upper right corner) I see a startup control panel
icon. If I click on it, the file menu for it comes into view, and the
choices are in what appears to be German or French. Choices are limited, I
have used both. It just shuts down the window. Nothing more happens.
I have tried booting with CD in drive (internal IDE) and holding C, I have
tried it with Command-Option-shift-delete. Still goes back to regular
startup disk.
I have used the startup disk control panel method, choosing the OS X CD as
the startup Volume.
After a bit of writing:
Not an HFS volume, over and over again, it reverts back to the regular start
up disk (internal IDE)
I am stumped!
What say Ye, Olde Wise Ones?
