But there's no doubt that Macs can last, not so much because of their construction but because of their original software design that made possible ease of use. Even older Mac applications still give good accounts of themselves because they were innovative enough in their own time to remain useful now. All that has changed is the geometric increase in capacity industry wide. That's what folks are buying now. That's not Apple's doing. It's the guys at Intel and IBM, etc. who are driving for speed and storage and new uses of digital technology, like imaging, music and video. If you look at the iMac you'll see that ease of use still is Apple's allure. This same philosophy put AOL over the top. If you pay two grand for a Dell tower you'll get more power and hardware than in a comparably priced Mac. Folks buy tower Macs because they appear innovative and run a very intuitive and convenient OS. To us that effect isn't an illusion, but it might be -- like that original software -- enjoying the inertia of the original rocket, that still accelerates in the nick of time. So, I have little doubt that next year this time you will see Macs running Intel multi-gigabyte processors. From silver to gold, the new Apple symbol already that graces the window of our local Apple dealer. And there's a reason for it. Bob -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
