I've tried to determine the revision of my motherboard with limited success. I can't use the System Profiler trick because the OS-X profiler does not give a rom number. The System 9 profiler gives the wrong rom number running in classic, and I can't boot into 9.2.1 to run it directly. The ATI chip on the motherboard just says "Rage Pro", not "Rage II+ DVD" for Rev1 or "Rage Pro Turbo" for Rev2 and 3. I'm guessing it's a Rev2? The serial number sticker says "6/10/1998 B-1 5:12 pm Serial# XB8240*****" Which sounds like it eliminates a Rev3, by being a few months too early. Is the B-1 what I'm looking for?
I installed 10.2 just for fun, and discovered that the installed 9.2.1 that would not boot will boot as Classic inside 10. So now I can do everything but actually reboot into 9.2.1. 10.2 is a lot more usable than I expected on a 266 MHz G3 with only 96 meg of ram! It hits the hard drive a lot with paging, but does work fine. Dragging the window around is a bit flashy, but updates quicly enough to look good. With more ram, this could work well. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
