To afford which you have to be either a rich b@!^&@d or running a 
studio, they are like �150 each here for a card that is �35 for the 
PC and now outdated by Audigy.... hhrrmmm....

The Griffin iMic is about the best practical solution for the 
everyday Joe, it's a little USB thing with a pair of Mic ports, 
originally designed for the iBook which, like mine, has no Mic.
