I have not followed this thread so not sure if this is relevant, but I 
have the Disk Utility app in the Utilities folder in the Applications 
folder installed by 10.2
  I still only run Disk Utility by booting from the OS X 10.2 Install 
Disk 1 and running it from that disk.
