horse hockey! developers are already jumping to x, it's probably much easier to program on. i've seen new programs that had been missing from the mac world for a long time. there's a new version of a major, major computational chemistry program for the mac under x, from a company that hasn't done mac programing for along time. there's also a great circuit board design program for the mac under os x now, not a simple cad program, but a fairly full blown commercial design tool. if they didn't want people to run 9 on the new machines, they could easily have made the machines not work with 9, my mac works with os 9.1 but won't touch 9.0.4. making the hardware self destruct would be awfully, awfully obnoxious. it's a flaw. i'm sure it's a design flaw, they do happen. if it's a management flaw, then i'll NEVER buy another mac again, making expensive equipment self destruct is not reasonable, especially with no warning or real hardware reason. it's a bug. do you think that netscape crashes so often because aol wants people to use i.e.? i don't think so, it's a bug, pure and simple. apple absolutely does not need to make machines self destruct to push x and kill 9, it could easily be done without killing peoples hardware. geez, which part of the Gestapo are you from? would pc users tolerate it if windows killed their machine if they used any non microsoft products or used older versions? i don't think so, software crashes are acceptable, and often unavoidable with old versions of software and a new os, hardware destruction is not. there is no good reason for it, and no excuse. i say again, if apple doesn't fix this soon i'll never buy a mac again.
