Hello Beige or other users: How to troubleshoot the OSX enabled master/slave feature on the CD-Rom IDE bus on a Beige G3 DT: - does the CUDA button play any role (I know the PRAM reset doesn't)? - if using a double-head IDE cable (as you must) that is out of spec (the list-member who goes by the name of Peter with letters after his name has commented that special cables do exist) but what are the specs? Are such cables available in a specialty store hereabouts (Montreal, Canada)? - going by hearing, the faulty set-up indicates that the (in my case) HDD on the IDE bus that carries the original HDD fails to spin up to its operating speed and thus (?) cannot be mounted (I believe that the new slave HDD does spin up properly, but since it wasn't recognized before the double-head cable was installed, you can't use it as a start-up disk, obviously) - on a related note, is there a directory-repair utility from Unix/Linux that is useful in OSX? If so, what is it called or where these might be found (OSX 10.15, not jaguar)? - has anyone booted an OSX config using the CD-Rom with an OSX installer disk inside - I mean has it worked after installing the double-head IDE cable? - in using the IDE cables, does switching sockets on the mob do anything? My experience is negative - not a solution/enabler. - setting jumpers on the HDD: this info is available on the mfg'rs websites: I'm using the original 4 Gig Beige DT from WD (Caviar AC34000-40LA - could use settings on these if you have them handy - not sure if mine make sense or if they are usable in the OSX environment), and the Fujitsu MPD3043AT (clear diagrams on the drive itself) - cable select settings - any relevance here? - slave present setting - ditto?
I'm sure I've missed something. Thanks for reading.
