I'm not sure I'm able to follow this discussion, but I have X running ok on my
Beige tower, rom C, but I was unable to reboot into X if I was running 9.2.
Startup Disk did not select my X partition, no matter what.

A member of this list suggested using System Disk 2.6.2 (it's eassy to find o
the
web.) I don't quiite understand what it does, but it is similar to the Startup
Disk control panel but seems to work at a deeper level. In any case, it runs in
9.2 and guarantees my machine will restart in X.

Maybe that program will solve your problem.
