you might first try trashing the finder prefs, and there is an applescript update from 
apple you could use to reinstall the appletalk.  if that doesn't work you should 
probably reinstall the os, assuming you've run a drive utility.  you might also try 
trashing the appletalk preferences in case they just got corrupted.  it does sound 
like a disk or os problem however that may need a reinstall or a good pass with norton 
etc.
