Step by step we're upgrading the old beige G3/266. This is the official
Low End Mac let's see how well OS X performs on a slow G3 and how cheaply
we can upgrade things computer.

It's got 288 MB RAM and the stock 4 GB Quantum drive -- which will soon
be replaced with a 20 GB Seagate Barracuda. And to unleash it, I've also
go an Ultra66 card on order.

I've already got a G3/333 ZIF upgrade, so we'll be boosting CPU
performance soon, too.

After that -- and we'll be posting our findings on Low End Mac -- we'll
need to do something about the pathetic video. Don't need fancy 3D
performance, since this will never be a game machine. Good all around
performance and 24-bit support to 1280x1024 would be really nice. Price
is definitely a factor, as is performance under Jaguar (which we'll get
eventually).

Recommendations?

Thanks!

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build
bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to
produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
