In the AppleTalk control panel on the Umax, check to be sure it is set 
to the ethernet port and not the printer port.  I've made the mistake 
of leaving AppleTalk on the printer port after using a PLW NT printer.

Also, in the Jaguar sharing preferences pane, there is an internet 
sharing option under the "Internet" tab.  I haven't tried it yet, so 
YMMV.  There is also an IP sharing app called "IPNetShareX," which I 
tried, but it wouldn't work on my dial-up connection.
