Michael: I have 2 80 GB hard drives installed on my G-4 400Mghz machine and
it works great. I also have an ATI Radeon 8500 AGP Graphics Card with 64 MB
of VRAM that I use with Photoshop and our games and it also works great.
You can get the new Firmware from the Apple site. Did you go into drive
setup and select the drive and give each one a name, i.e. hard drive 1, hard
drive 2. It won't show anything on the screen until you go into drive set
up and select the start up drive and name the new drive. It also will show
you if the drive is seen by the computer. You can also access the drives by
holding down the "C" key at startup and it will ask you which drive you want
to start from or access. I'm curious about the "master" / "slave" set-up.
I was under the impression that you didn't have to set up either drive under
the G-4 provided you use the existing connector. One drive is connected to
the 1st socket or connector and the second is connected to the bottom socket
or connector. Not sure what the proper name is for them, but I just
installed 2 hard drives in my G-4 about 2 months ago and didn't have to
reset or mess with any jumpers with either drive. It even stated that in
Bold Type on the install instructions that if I used the connecting strap
(looks like a thin belt with 2 long and narrow connectors about midway and
on the end.) Connect the closest connection to the main or start up drive
and the 2nd one to the secondary drive. I have 2 OS systems installed
separately. OS 9.2.2 on the 1st hard drive that I start from, and OS 10.1.5
on the second hard drive that I can access through drive setup, or by
holding down the C key at startup and then selecting hard drive 2 to start
from. I don't believe it matters the make of the hard drive, you don't need
to change the jumpers unless you are replacing that connecting belt or have
more than 2 hard drives installed.

Go to your drive set up and start there and then see if the screen comes up.
