Do you also have a Palm Pilot hooked up to your serial port?.... I had this problem for a while before I tracked it down. < trying to connect palm/printer/modem to Gport in my B&W with a switcher/etc > The palm software has a Startup Program that kinda grabs onto the port when started up.
even without a switcher I couldnt CHOOSE either my printer or modem while the PalmPilot was hogging the port. I disabled the startup for it and all is fine < so far >.
