Or, you could go and get a ye older SDRAM-based QuickSilver 2001 Dual 1Ghz G4. Rock solid and no problems. And the RAM is half the cost of the DDR Ram Dual machines that are out now... Refurb versions--with the same 1-year Apple warranty as the new ones--of the QuickSilver 2001 Dual 1Ghz G4 are readilly available and quite a good deal. -----
I need some comments on QS 2001 dual 1G vs MDD dual 1G: - G4/1GhzDP 256/80/Superdrive/Radeon9000/56K (MDD) - PowerMac G4/1GHz-DP 512/80/Superdrive/GeForce4 (Quicksilver) both for ~$2199. Is the Quicksilver (133mhz system bus) preferable over the current MDD model (167mhz)? Is it because of stability, the problems of MDD with loud fans & crowded cable interior? Or, does the Nvidia Geforce 4 play a factor Does the Nvidia have the edge over the Radeon? (PC gamers think so, by a factor of 2) I don't need the Superdrive (don't burn DVDs), so I think a dual 867 MDD is better for me ($1699 new, $1495 refurb). I heard the 867 MDD can be OC'd to over 1 ghz, along with getting faster (more expensive) ram. Can you get the free Indesign software, if you get the refurb QS 1ghz? I'm thinking of getting a dual G4. That Indesign deal expires on Dec 31, 2002. The price drop won't happen until Macworld SF (early 2003). So, should I wait for the price drop in Jan 2003, or buy now to get Indesign? I've heard other people say, they'll wait until next year for some exciting machines.
