I did this very thing except with a beige DT.  The improvement is quite
dramatic.  Open GL is actually usable and OS X responds at what is to me an
acceptable level.  With the stock video in OS X scrolling would slow to a
crawl.  iTunes gives me a much smoother visual effect in OS X, but is still
rather choppy in OS 9.2.  I had heard that this is because iTunes 3 allows
it to use Open GL whereas it still uses software rendering in iTunes 2.x,
but I'm not really sure about the details.

Of course you still don't get quartz extreme, but if you're getting the card
at a decent price it's a great upgrade.
