I wanted to follow up on my previous discussion on adding a SuperDrive
to the new Dual 867Mhz G4. I finally had time to tackle this problem. I
have extremely busy. I want to thank Obi-Wan for his suggestion of
removing the Face plate. It was a good idea, but it was not the answer.
It turns out that DVD tray is too wide for the G4. The built-in DVD
Drive is a special OEM built for Apple that has a slim CD-Tray. The
only way for this tray to pop out is to make the opening on the G4
wider. This is the Pioneer A04 DVD burner. I have tried using an exacto
knife to widened the opening. But part of it is made of Metal. It's not
going to work. The bottom line is, I will have to figure out a way to
get the special OEM Superdrive that is made for Apple. Otherwise maybe
the new Pioneer A05 drive will have a slimmer DVD tray. I guess I can
use this Superdrive in my PC, but it sucks I had to spend $330 dollars.
Apple should have placed a disclaimer saying the Pioneer A04 is not
compatible in the new G4.
