Be aware that many devices will not run from the power given up from a 
keyboard port, as they are usually not "powered", I am betting a 
optical mouse is one. You may want to consider getting a powered hub.
Plug the keyboard into the USB on the machine, and the hub into the 
other. From there, you can plug the mouse into a port on the powered 
hub.
