Tom,

Since I've worked in a school environment, I do have some advice I can
offer.

First off, your school should already have some sort of protections software
to keep kids from doing too much. The school I was at used a program called
FoolProof. It is only as effective as the password, but there is a lot you
can lock out with this program. Plus, it works on both Windows and Mac
platforms. If the school doesn't already have it, I'd strongly suggest they
get it or something similar. If they only have Macs, there is also
Macmanager or MacAdministrator.

As for the CDs, the way I did it was to make a disc image using Disc copy
and place an alias of the image in the startup items folder. Most programs
will see the mounted image as no different from the install cd.

Well, the baby's crying so I can't write much more at the moment. I'll
happily answer other questions.
