Hi! I just got my dream computer, too bad a lot of things went wrong (that's not the only thing that is wrong lately), since it was supposed to bring a Jaz drive and it didn't (I am waiting for a replacement external one in the mail now). The HardDrive is bad, the CDR I think is bad (waiting for replacements) & the PCI modem I bought separately doesn't work either. I was the only unlucky person from all the eBay auctions to be so unfortunate to get the bad one from a lot of others from the same seller :( I thought the SCSI card was THE one that was bad but proved it works after installing external & internal 50 pin harddrive into it (the only reliable way to boot it).
Well here's my question. I purchased a US Robotics 56K PCI Modem that the seller said was Mac compatible (from the swap list). WHile the CDs carboard says clearly (Macintosh System 7.6 or higher), the CDs do not seem to have ANY mountable Mac partition. All I see is PC files. After installing AOL, I tried the automatic setup, it can't find any modem. I chose the expert setup, AOL searched for a modem and gave me the option of a US Robotics modem. Of course if it hadn't found it, it wouldn't have given me the option. On sign on proccess it says it couldn't initiate the modem. The modem is a PCI modem, does not go into the available modem slot (it doesn't fit). So I had to use the available PCI slot. In the modem control panel the option for a US Robotics is there, but ONLY for Printer/Modem port, NO PCI option. How can I tell if this modem is going to work at all?? To me it's just a PC modem in Mac packaging ( I refer to the cardboard on the disks since the box is not present), of course I can find a PC to use it in (my husband's) but I want to know once and for all if there is a PCI modem choice at all in the mac and how to use it.
