Zip disks are great, as long an you don't want transportability of reader or media. I personally have experienced 10 drives die from "click death" and twice that many zip disks fail in the last 7 years. I stopped using zip disks at least 3 years ago and have been recommending to my clients to ditch them and switch to CDR's. As cheap as CDR's are, making 2 or 3 copies of the same data is at least 100 times cheaper than using the same quantity of zip disks. ($.30 per cdr, $7 per zip, 600 megs of data). I still have usable CDR's I made 7 years ago. But I have Audio CD's that are 10 years old that are dying from reflective layer failure, not scratches.
