I had an issue where I couldn't run the OSX CD off of certain CD ROM.....did you change any of the hardware? specifically the CD-ROM?
with the Apple 2x DVD ROM, i would run the install, then the screen would go black during the CD bootup like you mentioned. I stuck in a liteon- 16x10x40 CD-RW and it worked just fine....
