Hi everyone,

My name is David. I am on a few other lists but thought I'd follow up on an
item here .

I am using a Supermac S900 with XLR8 Carrier & OWC G3 450Zif. VST Ultratek
ATA/66 Promise card.

A few weeks ago, Len had posted a help here on my behalf. I bought his
DVD/RAM drive. A model LF-D211A Panasonic/Matsushita Atapi interface.
Well I have been having problems getting this thing to work on my computer.
Works fine in other computers like an Apple G4 tower and whatever Len has.

But with mine, it keeps telling me the 'Disk is Locked' whenever I try to
copy something to it, format a new disk, or even run ANY utility. The Get
Info "Lock" feature has no effect either. Drive shows up as "Write
Protected" in the ASP. What is frustrating is that we know it works on
other systems, just not mine. In fact, I can mount both cd and DVD/RAM
disks just fine here. I can copy data from either onto my hard drive. We
even copied some files to the dvd/ram while on my friends computer and
transferred them to my drive when I hooked it back up here. I just can't
write to the DVD/RAM when hooked up to my system.

I've been trying both the disk Len sent along and bought a new Panasonic
4.7. Both are Type II. I have installed all of the extensions we can think
of but this doesn't help. Len has helped immensely in trying to assist me
in getting this thing to work on my system. A few AppleCare suggestions
were posted here but those didn't help.

I am wondering however if my ATA card doesn't support this drive? Funny it
mounts disks just fine though to copy from. I have looked for a driver but
no luck. But now that we've isolated the problem and we know it wasn't
damaged in shipping, and that it does work in two other systems, I thought
I'd post a follow up here in case anybody has any more ideas.

I would appreciate any ideas out there. I even tried an older version (2.5)
of 'DVD/RAM Tuneup' but it had no effect.

Any thoughts about what I am missing? Knowledge about VST Ultratek cards?

Thanks in Advance!

Dave
