Que! external drives have been difficult for me to find info on on the
web. A few months ago I swapped for a Que! USB 4x4x8x external cd-rw (thanks
David D.) and it works great (slow, I'm told, but I have nothing to compare
it to and it seems really fast compared to trying to chisel out a cd.)
Time passed. A few weeks ago I bought a QUE QPS-525 external box at a
flea market. No software, no connector cables, no power supply, no
paperwork, no nothing. I was told that it was a cd-rom. It is a firewire
box. I swapped and got a firewire cable for it and just took a chance that
the power supply for the Que! USB writer was the right one of the QPS-525.
I hooked up the firewire to my iMac, and jacked in the power supply from
the USB. I fired it all up, put in a music cd . . .and out came music.
Kewl. Just for grins I opened up Toast and dropped some stuff in and
told it to write . . .and the QUE-525 opened its tray, so I dropped in a
blank and . . .it wrote it, pretty darned fast too. I opened Apple System
profiler, and it showed that there was something on a firewire buss, but
the data was unintelligible. I was hoping it would tell me what was in
the QPS box. I've asked on swaplist and got no response, so I'll ask
here . . .anybody got a power supply for this box that they will swap?
or sell? It has the weird almost ADB looking plug and it is a Rexon
Switching adapter ITE power supply Model number AC-005 and seems to take in
120v ac and output 5v and 12v (dc I guess). Any info on the drive (and how
to change out it's plastic colored panels) and on the power supply and
on how to get ASP to id it would be appreciated. TIA
