I don't have your exact packaging, but the box for my Iogear  
FireWire/USB 2.0 combo card says the Mac requirements are OS 8.6 or  
later and an available PCI slot. It doesn't actually say it will work  
on any Mac with a PCI slot, but the language is misleading enough that  
the retailer you bought it from will likely give you a refund.

The Iogear tech support pages list the pre-OS X software requirements

And, here, they specifically disclaim any support for Rev A (Beige) G3  
and and all earlier models:
