OS X is Unix, it uses a VM swapfile on a hard disk. You cannot disable
it, you don't *want* to disable it. It's far more efficient than that
in OS9.

30 years worth of some Very Smart People(TM) have worked on and
developed this memory system for Unix.

Sun Blade systems with 125 processors and multiple gigabytes of memory
use a VM swapfile. (a very, very large VM swapfile!)

It all comes down to this: If you want faster memory access, buy more
RAM.

Your reasoning on this VM issue is like the old math tricks that prove
2=1:

   a = b
  a2 = ab
  a2 - b2 = ab-b2
  (a-b)(a+b) = b(a-b)
  a+b = b
  b+b = b
  2b = b
  2 = 1

(hint for the algebra impaired: the fallacy occurs between steps 4 and
5, you cannot divide by zero.)
