I am new to OS X and trying to move to it full time, but I am getting a hard freeze about once an hour. First my system specs:
Beige Tower G4 533 (not overclocked) OS X 10.2.3 (with the Logitec control center for my mouse ) 768meg ram (3 pc100 sticks from OWC) They tested fine with Dimm Tester (I think that is the app's name) 80G IBM HD hooked to a Ahard ATA 133 card (OS X in the first partition, 7.5G) Radeon 7000 IIRC, I have not installed any ATI updates, just running with what came with Jag. Generic USB 2 card with a logitech mouse on it (I have not tried any 2.0 spec peripherals yet, got the card because it has an internal connector and I want to use a drive bay hub in the free bay in my tower. It works with the built in OS X and the 1.4.1 drivers from Apple with no problems) The system is rock solid with 9.2.2. I am getting a hard system freeze after about an our of use. The mouse freezes completely and the only way to get out is to reboot the system. After rebooting, I can run for an hour or so before I get the next freeze, which leads me to believe it is not heat related. Mostly I am just playing on the net for now in Jag. The primary apps I have open are: Mozilla 1.2.1 or 1.3 Thoth (a newsreader) 1.6 Mail These freezes occur whether or not classic is running and do not happen while any specific app is in the foreground. Any ideas or directions to go in to solve this? BTW, for right now I am using my standard 9.2.2 system folder for classic and manually starting it with extensions off when I want to run classic apps. Good, bad or indifferent idea? Thanks, Len -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
