I have an XLR8 G4 ZIFF that I got from OWC shortly after XLR8
closed. I think that many of the OWCs are from XLR8 (I'm not sure).
Mine is running at 333 on a floor model 233 Beige G3. I could clock
it higher but its fast enough. It was easy to put in and I am really
pleased with it.
It takes an XLR8 extension when starting up, but the machine
is solid as a rock with it in it (unlike my other Beige G3). I got
the 333 model because you can often find it for around $100. I have
no idea what happens as you start pushing higher speeds. Those
speeds are measured as a multiple of the bus speed and you can't
change the bus speed (easily).
My personal opinion is that more RAM, a new disk drive and a
better video card are the first things. But it depends upon what he
wants his speed for.
