I recently had a partition reported as "failed" Tech Tool Pro 3.0.3 test of the OS 9.1 partition on an ATA IDE drive. Although I hadn't been using this computer recently, it had worked well when last used several weeks ago, and I was testing it to start using it as a backup while I was installing a ZIF and new HD on my other "primary" G3 computer. TTPro suggested that I do a surface scan and reinstall the System software.
My question is that since I have OS 8.6 on the other partition of this drive, and it tested as "passed" with TTPro, can I do a surface scan of the "bad" OS 9.1 partition and just do a new "clean install" of OS 9.1 on the bad partition and not have to reformat the entire drive and repartition it ( and thus destroy all the data and applications )? The data is backed up and I have all the install disks so I can start over, but would prefer not to waste the time, if it's not necessary. Any help appreciated.
