I think so; and as has already been mentioned, you can get Retrospect Express pretty cheaply. >Why wouldn't I use Carbon Copy Cloner for same? Carbon Copy Cloner, and similar copy-everything-over strategies are pretty primitive. They're OK in the event of a catastrophic failure or when you immediately know some data has been lost; but what happens if something goes bad and you don't notice it right away? The cloner/copier will continue doing its thing and copy the bad file(s) over the good ones--and *poof* there goes your backup! Retrospect will keep multiple versions of changed files, so you can recover previous versions. So if a file gets corrupted and you don't immediately notice it, or you just want to go back to last weeks' version, you can do it. >Does it make sense to have something that will only backup >changed files, or backup the whole drive each time it is >scheduled to back up. Backing up everything takes more time and media (especially if you want multiple copies/versions). Retrospect supports both modes--you can do full or incremental backups. Dantz (and most people who are serious about backups) recommends a blend of both strategies: do frequent incremental backups and periodic full backups. >I am doing fairly well just backing up end-of-day stuff on >zip disks and then doing an end-of-job or end-of-month >backup burn to CD. My problem is the thought process >in terms of "what has changed since last backup?" takes >some time I'd rather devote to other tasks. That's something that Retrospect does very well. -Jeff [EMAIL PROTECTED] Not affiliated with Dantz; just a happy customer -- "You can't brew a premium lager with a kool-aid mentality." --Harold Green in _The_Red_Green_Show_ -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
