Hard drives are always 6-32 UNC.

Zip and CD drives are always M3-0.5.

Remember ... the screws which Apple uses throughout its machines may look 
like 6-32 UNC, but they're actually M3.5-0.6.

Make the mistake of interchanging 6-32 UNC and M3.5-0.6 and you've just 
cross-threaded your Mac or your drive.

Repairs are possible, but only if you have an ultra-rare M3.5-0.6 tap.
